Published on 02 January 2009

Primagaz France has been involved in a policy of energy savings since 2006 and anticipated the legal obligation. This process, which they voluntarily started, allowed them to reach more than their objectives in Energy Savings and 6 months earlier.

Primagaz reached a total of 313 380 468 kWh energy savings by the end of December 2008, which then already represented 110 % of their energy savings objective set for June. 99% of this has already been confirmed by the Drire (French body authorized). The latest registrations that have been confirmed during the 1st quarter of 2009, reached to almost 41 GWh. The official target set by the state of 282 GWH in June, was easily met with over 350 GWH until March 2009. Primagaz is very happy with these results but don’t intend to sit still now - they are keen to get close to 400 GWH Energy savings by June!

In the environmental policy, White Certificates or Energy Saving Certificates, are documents certifying that a certain reduction of energy consumption has been attained. In most applications, the white certificates are tradable and combined with an obligation to achieve a certain target of energy savings. All the producers, suppliers and distributors of electricity, gas and oil are required to underake energy efficiency measures for the final user that are consistent with a pre-defined percentage of their annual energy deliverance. If energy producers do not meet the mandated target for energy consumption they are required to pay a penalty. The White certificates are given to the producers whenever an amount of energy is saved.
